In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, nurse educators found themselves having to move their courses online quickly. In response to this, sharing online activities supports nurse educators. One online activity that can be used by nurse educators is student-developed and -created medication commercials. This is an alternative to conventional discussion board posts that allows students to be creative and interactive through creating medication commercials. To implement this online activity, students are encouraged to select any medication they desire and to be as creative as they can. Students can record themselves through various media, including TikTok, Snapchat, or other video recording software. Expectations of the student include that each medication commercial has the trade and generic name of the medication, indications, adverse effects, drug interactions, contraindications, and patient education threaded throughout the video. Furthermore, students are expected to have a speaking role in the video, and creativity is essential. Once the medication commercial is created, students upload the video into the discussion post and share it with their peers. Peer responses to each medication commercial allow students to review pharmacology concepts through auditory and visual learning. A standard grading rubric can be used when grading this activity. Feedback from this activity has been positive from students and educators alike. Students, especially generation Z, find this to be a fun activity that incorporates technology into the online classroom and helps them stay engaged. Furthermore, with the increased need for online resources that nurse educators were suddenly faced with, the medication commercials provide an online activity for distance education.
