November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. We honor the millions of nurses, nursing assistants, home care aides, therapists, social workers, administrators, and chaplains who make a significant difference for the patients and families they serve. HPNA NURSING RESOURCE GUIDES (NURSING RESOURCE GUIDES)

HPNA is now offering Nursing Resource Guides (NRGs) for clinicians looking for a quick reference on a variety of symptoms and topics. NRGs give management strategies for symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, dyspnea, seizures, nausea and vomiting, end of life, delirium, and more. The guides offer an overview of the symptom, common causes, and nonpharmacological and pharmacological interventional strategies.

THE 2021 ANNUAL ASSEMBLY OF HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE CARE GOES VIRTUAL

POLARIS-A NEW STATE-OF-THE-ART ELEARNING RESOURCE

HPNA's newest product, POLARIS, is a self-paced eLearning resource that comprised 13 modules that offer essential practice knowledge for early-career hospice and palliative nurses. The multimedia modules are crafted with short bursts of information that are incorporated into practical application through engaging learning activities. The modules are filled with case studies, videos, and future recommended activities for independent or preceptor-assisted learning that supports critical thinking.

HPCC EXAMINATION SCHEDULE FOR 2021

The Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center announces that the 2021 computer-based testing schedule will offer 4 testing windows in March, June, September, and December. The testing schedule along with application deadlines and instructions are posted in the Candidate Handbook, available at http://advancingexpertcare.org/certification.

 

HPCC RECERTIFICATION THROUGH HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE ACCRUAL FOR RECERTIFICATION (HPAR)

All HPCC certifications are valid for a 4-year period. If you are due to renew your certification, visit the HPCC website, http://Advancingexpertcare.org/certification, and choose your credential to learn about recertification and your requirements and options for renewal. All Hospice and Palliative Accrual for Recertification (HPAR) submissions have a due date of 2 months prior to the date of expiration of certification for the standard fee. After this date, an additional fee of $100 is charged. Deadlines for 2020 recertifications are quickly approaching, so be sure to review the website for requirements and fees as soon as possible.

 

CHPNA certificants will take the examination for recertification, CHPLN and CPLC certificants have the option of taking the examination or using the HPAR process for recertification.

Are you looking for free or low-cost continuing education programs for certification renewal? Consider these lists of free CE offerings and low-cost continuing education programs. Please note some of these offerings are time-limited and may require registration with the provider. REACTIVATION OF HPCC CREDENTIAL-FEE REDUCED TO $150 FOR 2020

The reactivation fee remains at a discounted rate of $150 ($25 saving) through December 2020. This fee is paid in addition to your credential recertification fee.

 

ACHPN, CHPN, CHPPN, CHPLN, CPLC, and CHPCA candidates who missed the deadline for recertification and meet the requirements for reactivation may use the HPAR process for reactivation according to individualized adjustments for dates of submission. Reactivation will be available for 3 years after expiration of credential. Candidates may not use the credential after it expires but may use it again after being notified that their certification has been reactivated. Reactivation is not retroactive, and the certification period will begin when notified and continue for 4 years from that date. Certificants interested in pursuing the reactivation process must notify HPCC by phone at 412-787-1057 or email at mailto:[email protected] of their intention to reactivate.

 

AUTO-SYNCING OF ONLINE COURSES NOW AVAILABLE!

HPCC is proud to introduce The Next Generation Learning Plan for Recertification! Beginning October 13, 2020, all online courses completed through HPNA University and the POLARIS modules will automatically sync with your learning plan, eliminating the need for you to manually enter course details. Within an hour of completing an online course, your information will appear in LearningBuilder, saving you valuable time. Please note, online courses outside of HPNA will still need to be manually entered into your learning plan. Along with The Next Generation Learning Plan, LearningBuilder has undergone updates to make the platform more user friendly. We hope it will improve the process for adding activities, be easier to use on a mobile device and be easier to read.

 

Automatic syncing is not retroactive, and courses completed before October 13, 2020 will need to be manually entered. All information previously added will remain in your learning plan.
