Abstract
QUESTIONS:
1. Does the construction material (latex or silicone) influence the risk of urinary tract infections when used in the patient with a long-term indwelling catheter?
2. Does the construction material (latex or silicone) influence the risk of bacterial adherence, biofilm formation, encrustation, and blockage when used in the patient with a long-term indwelling catheter?
3. Does the construction material (latex or silicone) influence local urethral irritation or inflammation or alter the risk for stricture formation when used in the patient with a long-term indwelling catheter?
4. Does the construction material (latex or silicone) influence the risk of hypersensitivity (allergic) reactions when used in the patient with a long-term indwelling catheter?
5. Does the construction material (latex or silicone) affect the performance of the catheter's retention balloon?
