HPNA EXPERT DIRECTORY: VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY FOR HPNA MEMBERS TO SHARE EXPERTISE

When the HPNA national office seeks subject-matter experts to serve on national panels and committees; to develop and teach educational programs; or to craft position, value, and policy statements, it looks to its membership. Member experts carry forward the mission and vision of the hospice and palliative nursing profession while serving the organization. In 2022, HPNA introduced the Expert Directory, a place for HPNA members to volunteer to share their expertise in any of the following domains of hospice and palliative nursing practice:

* Structures and processes of care

* Physical aspects of care

* Psychological and psychiatric aspects of care

* Social aspects of care

* Spiritual, religious, and existential aspects of care

* Cultural aspects of care

* Care of the imminently dying patient

* Ethical, regulatory, and legal aspects of care

Interested members are encouraged to update their profiles and list their areas of expertise in the HPNA Expert Directory (https://community.advancingexpertcare.org/network/expertdirectory).

HPCC INTRODUCES LIVE REMOTE PROCTORING: NEW OPTION FOR TAKING CERTIFICATION EXAMINATIONS

The HPCC now offers the option of live remote proctoring (LRP) for a person taking a certification exam outside a traditional test center. The secure technology connects the candidate with a live professional proctor. The HPCC exams will remain available at testing facilities and by LRP, allowing candidates to choose when and where they take their HPCC exams. Candidates have reported that the process is simple and stress-free and that it saves time for travel to a test center.

"HPCC is thrilled to offer candidates the option of testing via live remote proctoring. This new exam option is designed to meet the personal needs of our candidates and make the pursuit of their certification goals as seamless as possible. By allowing candidates to take the HPCC certification exam at their home or other location with a live, remote proctor, we are providing a higher level of overall convenience," said Chad Reilly, MBA, CAE, senior vice president of credentialing and health policy.

NEW HPNF EMERGING LEADERS AWARD: ENCOURAGING THE NEXT GENERATION OF NURSE LEADERS

"It can be tough being a younger nurse leader," says Amy Jacobs, MSN, AGCNS, ACHPN, of her quick rise to a supervisory role at age 28. Her mentor, another leader who was distinguished early in his career, Patrick White, MD, partnered with Jacobs to create the HPNF Emerging Leaders Award.

Jacobs is a board member of HPNA and HPNF; White is the division chief of palliative medicine at BJC HealthCare in St. Louis. White was named among the inaugural "Hospice and Palliative Medicine Inspirational Leaders under 40" by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. The pair advocated to replicate that award for deserving hospice and palliative nurse leaders. Thanks to the generous support of the BJC Institute for Palliative and Supportive Care, their idea became a reality.

"There are so many amazing nurses like Amy who don't receive the recognition for the true impact they have on our health systems," White said. The Emerging Leaders Award recognizes and supports a network of dynamic nursing peers who will make a lasting impact on the future of hospice and palliative nursing. This year's 30 inaugural awardees were celebrated at the 2022 Annual Assembly (see list below). Nominee qualifications included active membership in HPNA, age less than 40 years or less than 5 years working in hospice and palliative nursing, and demonstrated leadership excellence in the field. Each awardee received a 1-year HPNA membership, a plaque, and a pin.

Congratulations to the 2022 HPNF Emerging Leader Award recipients!
