PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse Education Program (WOCNEP) at M. D. Anderson provides education for nurses who wish to specialize in the care of individuals with acute and chronic wounds, fistulae, GI/GU continent and cutaneous ostomies, and urinary/fecal incontinence problems. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This flexible, accessible, and rigorous program is offered in partnership with Metropolitan State University. Faculty has been teaching WOC nursing online in this program for more than 2 years. A student may enroll as a graduate student and receive 12 graduate credits on completion or enroll as a continuing education student. This program also offers continuing education for nurses and WOC nurses through online seminars.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The University of Virginia School of Nursing now offers WOC training within its master's programs. WOC nursing incorporates principles and practices that promote, maintain, and restore health for persons with wounds, ostomies, and continence problems throughout their lives. WOC nurses specialize in the care of individuals with disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and genitourinary and integumentary systems.

 

Onsite: Three 3 graduate-level credits for a total of 9 credit hours. Fall semester: A 3-credit-hour graduate-level class on introduction to WOC nursing is offered.

 

Spring semester: A 3-credit-hour graduate-level class on advanced WOC nursing. Summer semester: a 3-credit-hour practicum on WOC nursing is offered.
