Abstract

This article uses sociohistorical, cultural, and ethical perspectives to describe factors that may influence the participation of African Americans with a life-limiting illness and their families in end-of-life research. The article concludes with recommendations to improve the recruitment and retention of African American families in end-of-life research to answer important questions that will improve the quality of and increase the access to end-of-life care.
