Abstract

Mitral valve prolapse is a commonly diagnosed condition involving the cardiac valves. Although usually a benign disorder, there may be complications that require hospitalization in a critical care unit. This article provides an overview of mitral valve prolapse-pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, medical management, potential complications, and nursing management.
