Abstract

ABSTRACT: Issues of drowning or near drowning in aquatic sporting have received considerable attention in the literature; however, there is not a lot of attention to nonsubmersion injuries such as water tubing. Water tubing is similar to water skiing but with much less control by the rider, leaving the rider at the mercy of the driver or any obstacle in their path. This report describes unusual events surrounding the injury of a 5-year-old boy enjoying water fun with his father on his boat. The importance of adequate safety precautions during aquatic recreational activities will also be highlighted.
