Abstract

A case of a 56-year-old-woman who underwent weight loss surgery is reviewed to present a rare complication after weight loss surgery (abscessed anastomosis) and its medical and nutritional resolution. Although unforeseen surgical and nutrient deficiencies following gastric bypass surgery have been reported in the literature, few studies have been published with significant feeding complications and infection resolved by gastric bypass reconstruction several months after surgery. The purpose of this case study is to highlight the importance of appropriate medical and nutritional care after weight loss surgery, by skilled bariatric clinicians.
