Quick draping with one-person application

[black small square] The 3M Steri-Drape abdominal-perineal drapes make quick draping convenient by eliminating the need for multiple drapes. They feature a one-person application for perineal and abdominal sections.

The drapes' absorbent-prevention fabric creates a barrier to inhibit fluid strikethrough, which reduces the need for multiple drapes. Incise film provides a sterile operative surface to the wound edge at the start of surgery to help reduce the risk of surgical site contamination. The incise drape adheres securely to wound edges, providing a reliable barrier to bacteria on the skin. In addition, the flexible, breathable film is extra conformable for easy application, even around difficult anatomical contours. The Ioban 2 incise film provides continuous broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity to help reduce the risk of surgical site contamination and also offers a large anesthesia screen.

Bed talks to caregivers and patients

[black small square] Stryker's InTouch bed, the world's first talking bed, features "speaking translations," and can say more than 35 prerecorded clinical phrases such as "Where do you feel pain?" in 12 languages. The bed can also play music or nature sounds to provide a soothing care environment.

The InTouch controls are available to providers at their fingertips. The bed is controlled by an easy, intuitive touchscreen at the foot end of the bed. Nurses can see a patient's weight history graph or walk through each step of the Braden scale to assess the patient's level of risk for developing pressure ulcers.

Hand-held instruments for MIS

[black small square] Realhand high-dexterity instruments from Novare Surgical Systems are hand-held laparoscopic instruments featuring full range of motion for minimally invasive surgical procedures. Responsive tips are designed to mirror the surgeon's hand movements for greater precision and control, making it easy to reach behind and around structures.

The instruments offer seven degrees of movement and enable surgeons to perform difficult maneuvers that can't be performed with traditional instruments.

Bone scaffold promotes fusion

[black small square] Alphatec Spine, Inc., has announced the launch of ProFUSE demineralized bone scaffold. This porous, malleable allograft can be used with Alphatec Spine's Novel Spacers and AlphaGRAFT structural allografts. The ProFUSE product provides a natural scaffold derived entirely from bone that could be placed into a void within a spacer or on top of a spacer.

The sponge-like qualities of the ProFUSE scaffold allow a surgeon to compress the ProFUSE and place it into a small space. Following placement, the ProFUSE scaffold will expand to foster maximum contact between the spacer and the endplate of the vertebral body, promoting fusion.
