Today's healthcare arena challenges gastrointestinal (GI) nurses to stay abreast of reimbursement changes that impact efficient daily and long term operations. This session offers nurses and associates up-to-date GI-specific reimbursement information as well as practical tips for optimizing revenue in an ambulatory surgical center (ASC) or hospital outpatient department location. The basics of reimbursement will be reviewed before highlighting the impact of 2008 and proposed 2009 payment changes on the delivery of endoscopic services. The presentation then carefully examines steps of the charge capture process and potential gaps that might detract from collecting optimum reimbursement.
