Abstract
When treating lower extremity wounds, it may sometimes be challenging to determine the causative agent, which makes it difficult for the provider to prescribe the correct treatment. Venous, arterial, and diabetic neuropathic wounds are commonly found on the lower extremities of many adult patients. Sometimes, these types of wounds can be difficult to diagnose or confused with other conditions such as cellulitis, making them more of a challenge to treat. In this article, the pathophysiology, risk factors, assessment, and treatment options of venous, arterial, and diabetic neuropathic wounds, along with key points for patient education, will be discussed.
