Abstract

Interest in competing in triathlons is at an all-time high, and people of all ages and ability compete in this multisport event. Training for a triathlete involves long hours of swimming, cycling, and running, and what an athlete eats and drinks can support hard training. Fueling and hydration plans are also critical to successfully complete a race, and the longer the event, the more important a sound feeding and drinking plan is for the health and safety of the triathlete. Strategies for both training and race day are discussed along with practical advice for triathletes, from the novice to the ultradistance triathlete.
