Notice anything different? Perhaps different journal binding? Maybe a slightly different look on the cover? That is not all.

Orthopaedic Nursing, the official journal of NAON, will now be published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Inc. (LWW). As a member of the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON), the journal will arrive at your door, every other month, just as it always has. It is the Editorial Board's hope that the only difference you will notice in ONJ is that it is even better than what you have come to know and expect.

The decision to move ONJ to a new publisher was made in spring 2002 after an intricate process of examining other publishing options. This was not an easy decision because ONJ had enjoyed a great relationship with Anthony J. Jannetti, Inc, for its first 21 volume years. There was no question about whatONJ had been, but the question about where ONJ could be in the future raised many additional questions. When seeking answers to those questions, other opportunities became evident. The decision to move to LWW offers many new options for ONJ.

Orthopaedic Nursing will now find its home along side of the American Journal of Nursing, Nursing 2003, Nursing Research, Nurse Practitioner, and Clinical Nurse Specialist to name just a few. ONJ was enthusiastically met by all members of the LWW nursing publications department. An experienced group of professionals comprise the new ONJ publishing team.

You will see some changes as the design of Orthopaedic Nursing is reviewed; however, no major changes are planned in the near future. You can expect that much of what you like about ONJ will stay the same.

Some new things will be seen in ONJ this year, including several new columns. Columns such as Pathophysiology and Orthopaedic Essentials have been developed to ensure that all members of our association have their individual learning needs met. In addition, an in-depth look at both clinical and research materials that are of interest to our specialty but are published in other journals will be presented in Journal Club and Research Update. Pharmacology, Ethics and Radiology Review will continue on a regular basis as well. You will see greater product information and job opportunity listings in each issue of ONJ.

The continuing education articles will remain a constant in ONJ. LWW will take over the continuing education processing for the journal. Your CEUs will now be awarded by LWW and will be accepted by ONCB in the Level I category, just as in the past. For those who like to take advantage of CE online, that too will be available at

Orthopaedic Nursing is going to an electronic submission process for the submission and review of its manuscripts. This is desirable because it will expedite the publishing process. For the authors out there, you will be happy to know that you can now submit your manuscripts online by going to This technology will give our authors the ability to track the status of their manuscripts throughout the publishing process.

For ONJ reviewers, you, too, will manage your reviews online. We are excited about the possibilities for our journal.

We welcome the opportunity to work with Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Inc. The enthusiasm and support that I have received from all members of our new publication team is fantastic. This is the beginning of the new ONJ. Look for the exciting things ahead for ONJ and NAON. As always, I am interested in your comments.
