Happy Anniversary to the Journal of the Dermatology Nurses' Association (JDNA)! In 2018, the JDNA is celebrating its 10th year of publication, and this accomplishment is a cause for celebration. As the official publication of the Dermatology Nurses' Association, we are proud to honor the knowledge and experience of dermatology nurses. The JDNA offers dermatology nurses an academic venue in which to share their research and knowledge with colleagues, while offering engaging articles that help to guide our practices and complement dermatology nursing patient care. As a way to acknowledge this anniversary year of publication, a special logo was developed (Figure 1). You will see this logo on each cover of the issues in 2018. This recognition is a special way to highlight our year of celebration.
As another way to celebrate this accomplishment, we will be featuring an article in each issue this year that offers a representative example of some of our authors' best work over the past 10 years. We have chosen to highlight six articles that JDNA has previously published to remind readers of some of our standout articles. These reprints are a collection of our readers' favorite articles, are some of the JDNA's most downloaded articles online, are some of the best written articles we've had, and are some of the most clinically useful to readers. Of course, I think all our articles are worthy of special recognition, and I would encourage each of you to take a look back through your issues or scroll online through the JDNA's past articles. Which ones are your favorites? Which ones have been most influential on your dermatology nursing practice? Which ones do you most reference? Over the next year, maybe some of you would share with the JDNA those articles you have found most influential for you.
Speaking of most influential, the JDNA is proud to offer you a special supplement with this issue of the journal. You will notice that Sarah Neider, a JDNA Editorial Board member, and the contributing authors have worked to develop a special issue dedicated to acne vulgaris. It is our hope that you will find the articles in this additional supplement to be educational for you and your practice. Theresa Coyner, a JDNA Editorial Board member and author, has written a guest editorial about the rationale for the acne supplement, and I encourage you to read the articles that were written with you, the dermatology nurses, in mind. We hope you find the articles current and important to your practice and for your patients. Thank you to all the friends of the JDNA who have helped to make this supplement possible.
As it has been our tradition to start off the new year, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our JDNA peer reviewers who play an essential role in this publication. As you can imagine, our peer reviewers are at the heart of what we do. Each article published in the JDNA is evaluated by blind peer review before acceptance. This "behind-the-scenes" work is essential in creating a publication that is filled with the most up-to-date, accurate, useful information for you, our reader. Peer reviewers, who are representative of our dermatology nursing practices, offer an important voice to the manuscripts submitted for consideration. I think many authors would be in agreement with me when I say that most of the articles that are published in our journal are stronger for having gone through the peer review process. Please join with me in celebrating the work our peer reviewers do for the journal and for their expertise that makes our journal stronger, more engaging, and more relevant to our practices.
Would you like to share your expertise and clinical knowledge? The JDNA is looking for people to serve as volunteers, as authors of articles or columns, as peer reviewers, and/or as Editorial Board members. If this involvement is something you have been thinking about, I would encourage you to stop by the JDNA booth at the upcoming 36th annual Dermatology Nurses' Association Convention in San Diego, CA, from February 14 to 17, 2018. Both the JDNA's Managing Editor, Melissa Derby, and I will be there and looking forward to talking to readers and potential volunteers. Please stop by the booth to help us celebrate our 10th anniversary of publication and talk to us to see how you can become involved with the JDNA.
