GlaxoSmithKline Safety Tip-Lok

GlaxoSmithKline has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration for Safety Tip-Lok, prefilled Tip-Lok syringes packaged with BD SafetyGlide Needles for pediatric doses of Havrix (hepatitis A vaccine, inactivated) and Engerix-B (hepatitis B vaccine [recombinant]). Havrix and Engerix-B are the first and only pediatric vaccines available with Safety Tip-Lok, and the only vaccines to be available with an all-in-one delivery system, which meets the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's newly revised bloodborne pathogens standard. Safety Tip-Lok offers unique protection from accidental needlesticks. The BD SafetyGlide Needle has a shield that covers the needle tip after activation to help protect the person administering the vaccine from an accidental needlestick. In clinical tests of the BD SafetyGlide Needle, 100% of clinicians were able to activate the device with one hand with no instruction; 94% said they were comfortable with its ease of activation. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that by using safety devices as many as 88% of needlestick injuries can be avoided. Deroyal Needle Cap Caddie

Bolstering its arsenal of safety devices and supplies, DeRoyal announces the Needle Cap Caddie, designed to facilitate the safe handling of sharp medical instruments as mandated by OSHA Directive CPL 2-244D and the federal Needlestick Safety Act. The Needle Cap Caddie is a needle recapping and exchange device consisting of a foam pad with 10 predrilled locations that accommodate the capped end of all sizes and brands of hypodermic, spinal, and IV needles. The capped needles are placed in position prior to use and their caps remain lodged in the perforated locations, where the syringe and needle can be reinserted into the cap without finger involvement. It even allows for multiple exchanges during a procedure. The caddies, which are available either sterile or nonsterile, have adhesive backings for stability during use. 3M Health Care Micropore Plus Surgical Tape

Breathable, gentle 3M Micropore Surgical Tape, which hospitals and clinics have trusted for more than 40 years, now has a sister tape with higher initial adhesion. 3M Micropore Plus Surgical Tape was created with greater adhesion for more secure performance, but is still as gentle to the skin as standard Micropore surgical tape. Micropore Plus is made with a special nonirritating adhesive and a very porous backing that allows the skin to breathe. The tape holds well on damp or dry skin and is an excellent choice for repeated taping applications.
