I am proud to be serving as the new President of the Plastic Surgical Nursing Certification Board (PSNCB) and to have such an amazing group of professionals serving on the Board with me. The Board consists of Sharon Fritzsche (Secretary-Treasurer), Abbey Helton (Director), Lisa Griffin (Director), Kathy Mortl (Director), and Mary Totten (Public Member Position). We are excited to announce that we currently have 278 certified plastic surgical nurses (CPSNs) and 272 certified aesthetic nurse specialists (CANSs).

The PSNCB believes that attainment of a common knowledge base, utilization of the nursing process, and a high level of skill in the practice setting are required for proficient practice in the specialty of plastic and reconstructive surgical nursing. Certification provides professional recognition for these achievements. The Board recognizes the value of education, administration, research, and clinical practice in fostering personal and professional growth.

In 2017, the PSNCB initiated the online application in an effort to streamline the recertification process. Recertification guidelines and applications are available on the ISPAN Web site. Use the certification tab to find information about certification and recertification for both the CPSN and the CANS. To access your recertification form, log into the Certified Nurses Area. Your continuing education certificates must be uploaded into your recertification application, so please allow adequate time to complete this process. Once (re)certified, you may download your certificate to proudly display and carry your wallet-sized certification card.

The PSNCB is here to serve you. If you have any questions regarding becoming certified or in the process of applying for recertification for either the CPSN or the CANS, please reach out to the PSNCB at mailto:[email protected] or (877) 337-9315.

Respectfully submitted,

Renee Hinojosa, MSN, APRN, CPSN, CANS

President, PSNCB
