I appreciated the July Reflections, "What Joanna Would Have Wanted," and author Jennifer Chicca's advice to learn more about our patients as real people. As a palliative care NP, I have found that asking families to tell me about their loved one as a person is both a therapeutic and informative nursing intervention.

However, the use of the phrase "care was withdrawn" in the article is unfortunate. We may withdraw life support, or liberate someone from life support, but we do not withdraw care itself. Instead, care continues through a patient's death and beyond to support their loved ones.
