According to a recent press release, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Enterprise has announced its intent to celebrate the contributions of nurses as the world recognizes 2020 as the "Year of the Nurse." The ANA Enterprise includes the ANA, American Nurses Credentialing Center, and American Nurses Foundation. In 2020, the ANA Enterprise will celebrate Year of the Nurse by engaging with nurses and others in ways that promote nursing excellence, infuse leadership, and foster innovation.

Nurses are the largest group of health care professionals in the United States and also the most trusted profession. Nurses are with patients from the beginning of life to the end. Nurses practice in all health care settings, including plastic surgery and aesthetics. It is important for the public and others to better understand the value of nursing and the critical work that nurses do.

During 2020, National Nurses Week, traditionally celebrated from May 6 to May 12 each year, will be expanded to a month-long celebration in May to allow for increased opportunities to elevate and celebrate nursing.

As we enter 2020, the Year of the Nurse, there are a number of reasons to be proud of Plastic Surgical Nursing (PSN), the official journal of the International Society of Plastic and Aesthetic Nurses (ISPAN). According to our 2019 Publisher's Report, of the top 30 journals published by Lippincott, PSN is number 16! Institutionally PSN is available in 53 countries across 4,368 sites.

I am particularly proud of this issue of PSN because it includes a number of interesting and informative articles addressing a variety of topics. In addition to the heartfelt messages provided by our ISPAN President, Amanda Bailey, and Renee Hinojosa, President of our Plastic Surgical Nursing Certification Board (PSNCB), and, of course, my own message, this issue includes two continuing education articles! The first is an absolutely fascinating article discussing the types and treatment of hair loss in men and women (Coleman, 2020). I think you will also enjoy the continuing education article about ageism in nursing (Van Wicklin, 2020). Also included in this issue is a case report illustrating a two-stage repair and reconstruction following a traumatic injury to the ear (Salmeron-Gonzalez, Garcia-Vilarino, Perez-Garcia, Ruiz-Cases, & Sanchez-Garcia, 2020), a study of the effect of breast hypertrophy on body posture (Oliviera de Sa, Silva Porto, Fernandes de Carvalho, Netto, & Paggiaro, 2020), a discussion of the need for inverted suturing of wounds in the oral mucosa (Vincente Pardo, Garcia-Vilarino, Sanchez-Garcia, Salmeron-Gonzalez, & Perez-Garcia, 2020), a review of factors affecting the duration of efficacy of abobotulinumtoxinA when used for facial rejuvenation (Warren, Welch, & Coquis-Knezek, 2020), and a motivating piece about lessons to be learned when building a high-quality aesthetics practice (Laban, 2020). As if that wasn't enough to keep a plastic or aesthetics nurse busy, there's more! Two excellent articles that have been published previously in PSN have also been included (Spear & Thurman, 2017; Warren, 2016).

Also, please give a big shout out to Rachel Varga, BScN, RN, our award winner for the best 2019 ISPAN meeting presentation submitted as a PSN journal article! Rachel's outstanding article titled, "Providing Optimal Rejuvenation to the Periocular Area Using Botulinum Toxin Type A Neuromodulators and Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers," (Varga, 2019) was published in the previous issue of PSN. Be sure to check it out if you haven't already done so. Way to go, Rachel!

I wish you all the best as we enter 2020, the Year of the Nurse!

Respectfully,

Sharon Ann Van Wicklin, PhD, RN, CNOR,
