Abstract

Rates of metabolic bone disease (MBD) in patients with gastrointestinal (GI) and hepatic disease exceed 65% of the population. Decreased dietary intake of calcium and vitamin D-rich foods in addition to impaired digestion, absorption, and metabolism likely contributes to a high prevalence of MBD. The aim of this research is to elucidate dietary patterns in patients at high risk for MBD. An online food frequency questionnaire was offered to patients at an outpatient GI/hepatology clinic.
