On this month's cover, ED staff at Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit care for a patient who, while out with his wife, was struck by a stray bullet when a fight broke out nearby. This photo is from a new film out on October 14, In Case of Emergency (https://incaseofemergency.film), which profiles 14 ED nurses in seven locations across the United States, including Rabih Saad, RN, at right. In documenting the nurses' day-to-day work, the film, created by director Carolyn Jones and producer Lisa Frank with support from the Emergency Nurses Association, addresses the public health crises that ED nurses are all too familiar with-among them, gun violence, opioid addiction, mental illness, and lack of health insurance.
