Healthy People 2030 sets new public health goals. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released Healthy People 2030 (https://health.gov/healthypeople), setting public health goals for the next decade. The new goals emphasize social determinants of health, health equity, and quality of life. Changes to the overarching goals include adding health literacy to the goal of eliminating health disparities and achieving health equity; expanding the goal "to create social and physical environments that promote good health" to social, physical, and economic environments to promote health and well-being, and adding a new goal of engaging leadership to create policies that promote health and well-being for all. Other changes include the addition of objectives for addressing opioid use disorder and youth e-cigarette use, and inclusion of resources to respond to emerging health threats such as COVID-19.
