Abstract

The electronic health record requires the use of standardized nursing languages such as NANDA International, the Nursing Outcomes Classification, and the Nursing Interventions Classification. Helping nurses use these languages for an electronic health record requires different educational strategies in 3 domains: intellectual, interpersonal, and technical. The author explains the rationale for changes in educational methods, expectations that educators and managers should set for students and nurses at various levels of expertise, and teaching strategies in each of the domains.
