Providing effective feedback can be challenging for clinical instructors. Typically, feedback is written weekly and encompasses a student's performance and paperwork. Most nursing students expect information to be easy to obtain and immediate, and many learn best with technology. VoiceThread is a cloud-based learning tool that uses multimedia technology, making feedback more understandable and engaging; a free version is available. To give feedback on clinical paperwork, the instructor creates an individual student's VoiceThread. Each piece of the student's paperwork then becomes a slide. For example, if doing a VoiceThread every week, the title description can be the student's first name and date. The second step is to add comments by clicking the microphone at the bottom of the slide and creating an audio file. To emphasize points while recording, click on the pencil at the bottom of the screen. There are 8 colors to choose from: you can circle, underline, or write notes on the slide. After recording comments about the paperwork, save, cancel, or record more. When satisfied with the VoiceThread, the next step is to share, copy the link, and email it to the student; only someone with the link will be able to view the thread.
