Abstract

Primary amenorrhea is the absence of menarche by age 15 years. Though not as common as secondary amenorrhea, primary care providers must know how to assess primary amenorrhea. Evaluation includes a thorough health history, physical exam, lab evaluation, and, in some cases, imaging. Primary amenorrhea has three broad causes: genetic, hormonal, and anatomic.
