Abstract
Parvovirus B19 is a human specific genus within the Parvoviridae family. The Parvoviridae family includes several other genera that infect canines, chickens, bovines, felines, and many other animals. Parvovirus B19 cannot be passed onto canines or any other animals, and other parvovirus genera, such as canine parvovirus, cannot be spread to humans. This article discusses the diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and effective mitigation strategies, including effective hand hygiene, common touch surface sanitizing, and respiratory hygiene.
