Abstract
Mitochondrial diseases are due to mutations in the mitochondrial genome or in those nuclear genes that encode mitochondrial expression factors. Some nutrients are essential to mitochondrial gene expression. This article summarizes what little is known about nutrient effects on mitochondrial gene expression and mitochondrial disease.
